Backhoe weight
What is it with equipment weights? You would think that would standard info instead it can be like a state secret. I am looking at a Case 580K, 4wd, extendaoe full cab. Cannot find a weight for it. It is the only machine the Case site does not list a weight for, even the dealers can't tell me for sure. Anybody know?
Re: Backhoe weight
Ritchie specs say the 2WD is 14,285 and max weight is 17,545- which I believe is their way of saying 4WD. Bruce
Re: Backhoe weight
From info I found I would plan for the heavier weight Bruce posted. Some extend-a-hoes had to have front weights, bucket options change the weight, extra plumbing for other attachments, many things come into play on these. Looking at models each side of the 580K; a 580L series shows 13,200 to 15,750 then adds some options. A 580D series shows 10,500 to 12,000 then adds buckets. Depending on bucket options those could add 3000 lb.(+/-). Weighing a machine is the only way to get it exact.
Re: Backhoe weight
I agree with B Town. TLB's (Late 1970's forward) are a lot heavier than they look or one would think. I've got a Case 480E 2wd loader landscaper (loader and 6 way 6' box blade with rippers on back)and it's pushing 12K pounds.
The 17,545 is loaded with all the "bells and whistles" cab with glass and A/C,all available factory installed weights, largest available bucket options,4WD,etc.
If anyone is interested there is an auction tomorrow with some H and J series JD dozers. Brinkley's Auction in Idabel OK.Will have a live cast auction on their web-site if you want to watch and see what they sell for. I'll be there on Friday for the implement auction: looking at some 10' pull type bush hogs for the farm. And anything else that goes right....

Hi,
Given the subject, my brain read 'live cast auction' as 'live cast iron auction'.
And, I had a cup of coffee this morning!

Re: Backhoe weight
Guess I will pass on this machine, getting to heavy for my hauling equipment.
Re: Backhoe weight
Hi Terry,
Maybe not: when I load heavy I position the load to give max allowable hitch weight: be it bumper or gooseneck ball. If gooseneck I can legally pick up another 4000 pounds.
I'm running a Ram 3500 with drivetrain and suspension set up for max trailer weight of 29,000 pounds.
My heaviest built trailer has a gross of 30,000 pounds and the trailer weighs 5800.Load for 4000 pounds on gooseneck and I can easily and safely pull the full 29,000 pound truck rating without overloading anything.
I've also got a triple axle trailer with 7000 pound axles(21000 gross) and have grossed close to 25000 pounds on it my transferring the 4000 pounds "overage" to the truck.
All is dependent on truck towing capacity and a "heavy duty 1 ton" may not be all that heavy duty unless spec'd correctly.
