1010ru tractor

Post by bennyt » Wed Aug 29, 2018 12:03 am

Hi, I just purchased a 1010 RU tractor and was wondering if anyone knows of a forum as good as this one for JD wheel tractors. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi,

Hmmm. All I can think of is Yesterday's Tractors. They discuss everything over there. So much so, it can be difficult to follow.

Or, you we can chat about it here in the off-topic forum. Lots of wheel tractors have been discussed here. Heck. It is a 1010 and folks who have 1010c units tend to have matching wheel tractors, maybe. Much like I have an M wheel tractor and a 420c as well as a 5103 and a 350C. ;)

Thanks Stan. I was wondering if the basic tractor would be the same on a 1010 crawler and a wheel tractor. I bought this for a project. It supposedly has bad bearings in the transmission. The tires on it are worth what I paid for it,so if I can't fix it I'll use them on my other tractor, then part it out or scrap it.

Hi,

Engine and trans and the reverser (if it has one) match up. The ring and pinion has no differential on a crawler. Final drives are where it becomes really different.

Trans is different, should be a 5 speed, crawlers are 4 speed. Housing may be different depending on what style axles, and many of the gears will be different. Bearings should be no issue, fix them before any gear damage occurs, availability of new will be poor.

Hi,

Oh. Right. I forgot they quit putting 5-speed trans in crawlers with the 1010. Tractor probably has 5-speed and 2-stage clutch for the PTO. Another likely difference.

Sorry for the delay. Thanks Lavoy and Stan for your replies. This tractor has a 5speed trans with a single clutch and the PTO is hydraulic the best I can figure out. It has 540 and 1000 rpm PTO. I found a forum exclusive to the 1010. The owner indicated he had medical problems and posts ended a long time back but I did find some useful info on there. I'll try the off topic forum next.
