Crawler safety - near miss( or worse)

Post by gaspumpsam » Fri Apr 03, 2020 8:05 am

Spoke with a friend last nite, hadn’t heard from him for a bit( unusual) but he told me why- last week he was using his D8 to clear a small slide on his access road, as he got on the slide, the whole slide, road, bank all gave way and slid over the bank.
Very steep country, he thinks he went down about 300 ft or more, he remembers at least one full 360 with D8 landing back on its tracks, ( his D8 has a full ROPS canopy) on the highway below. He didn’t have his seat belt on , so was doubly lucky, but was thrown around , broke foot, ribs, neck etc, but is still alive to talk about it. He has one of those “halo’s to hold his neck strait) on and will have for 3 months or so.
He said he should have had his tracks ( he has winter set)with ice “corks” on, and his belt done up.

Everyone take a little extra time and be safe, not only on and around equipment now, but with this crazy virus we all have that is world wide. It’s bad enough to have an accident that requires hospitalization, but going to the hospital itself is scary!!
