Easiest tough decision I ever made.

Post by townlineterry » Fri Aug 07, 2020 10:51 am

After 26 years operating my sawmill and excavation business decided to close it down at end of year and retire, sort of. Wife wanted me to hang it up 3 years ago at 62, but wasn't ready. Been agonizing over this for months, but now the decision had been made I realize it was really a easy thing to do.
So now will have time to build her that new house she has wanted, learn fly fishing and spoil the granddaughter. Also have a really nice fully equipped shop to restore tractors and such in.
Most of my customers have been great people, will miss interacting with them . But I really feel no regrets. Looking forward to the next phase of life.
Terry

Get half a dozen or so old crawlers, that will keep you busier than working!

That is part of the plan. Also looking for a late 40's Reo Speedwagon dump to restore. That's what my grandfather had.

Congratulations Terry !

Enjoy ever minuted of your retirement, I have a feeling you're going to fall into a category that a wise woman once told me as she retired. She recommend me as her replacement and she would come in from time to time to chat and she told me on several occasions " I don't know how I had time to work"

The wife has a ever expanding list of projects she wants done. I admit since I worked so much things around the farm didn't get done. Promised her a year from now it will look like retired people live here. She has put up with alot over the years, she deserves to have this placed whipped into shape.

That might get you in trouble. Aren't retired people out traveling or goofing off most of the time with no time at home? Maybe don't want it to look like retired people live there.

This retirement thing gets a little weird at times. First piece of equipment I operated was a roadgrader. Right after high school I worked for the township road department. Guy that ran the grader was a childhood friend of my mother. He sort of took me under his wing. Let run the grader some when the boss wasn't around, things were more relaxed back then. Ran grader a little here and there till I got my own several years ago, my favorite machine to operate.
Anyhow, been doing a couple grading jobs this week got me thinking. Very soon, after 47 years I am going to climb out of that cab and walk away for the last time.
Strange.

You retiring is great! The wife retiring.... Not so great 😊. She might assume you have nothing to do!!! 😟

I might be doing nothing, but I'm not done with it yet....
