jd300 backhoe diesel
Re: jd300 backhoe diesel
Hi dtoots1,
A straight 300 would be in the 1965-1973 range. The 3 cylinder 152 diesel was used in the straight 350s and other tractors/equipment. Parts for the engine should be available along with most drive train parts. I believe that vintage tractor shared a number of the Ag tractor parts, so there should be coverage by JD, aftermarket, and salvage. Depending on which hoe and loader it has, some of those parts will be NLA from dealer and subject to salvage yard or aftermarket finds. From posts on other sites about these some with broken hoe parts are having to have those reverse engineered and fabricated. Seems to be the usual "that part commonly broken so they are hard to find no that they are NLA from JD".
They are a closed center hydraulic system, so trouble shooting in some areas is a bit different than an open center system.
Here is a cut sheet for the 300 from JD's Non-Current Models (Construction) site. https://www.deere.com/assets/pdfs/commo ... -JD300.pdf
I haven't spotted any manuals for viewing or download free on line.
Anything specifically you are looking for?
Hope this helps,
Jim

Re: jd300 backhoe diesel
good to hear from you JimB,
missed out on the jd440 cause i was a bit reluctant on that hydraulic pump issue.
Deere info seems to be a bit heftier machine yet much lighter than the 12 14 16k of more modern units.
tis a bit uglier ..worn rusted banged..than any of my other machines, but thats mostly cosmetics.
just a tad worried on diesel as have not been exposed to working on them...and curious as to the injector pump on this model see all the issues on the board..gas job would be no question.

Re: jd300 backhoe diesel
If it's running now I wouldn't worry about the injection pump much. If it has been setting a long time there is the risk of parts in the IP being stuck which would require a rebuild. Remember you will hear about the few having problems, not the hundreds or thousands running with no problems.

Hi,
I think the JD 300 is a 1520 painted yellow.

Re: jd300 backhoe diesel
yeah Stan..
i was a bit curious on that....tried tractor data on the jd300 and no such animal hows up, haven't been to look at the machine myself so couldn't verify id...
deere does list the jd300 as backhoe, be nice if can get running etc as weight checks to be around 8k like my dozer..jd440ic am guessing hoe itself should be about 2k?
