Case 580c

Post by 77 Ford » Mon Mar 29, 2021 8:49 am

I've got a case 580c and I've cleaned the little check valve in the top of the Standyne fuel pump about 4 times in the last few weeks. It all started when we had that massive cold freeze, it stopped running right and I just assumed it was gell'ed fuel broke something loose inside it. The problem still persist I know that the common problem is the plastic impeller is coming apart inside and that creates "mouse turds". I'm not seeing that but I do find little pieces and flakes of something every time I clean it. Am I just being delusional to think it might be something else? Is it time to just bite the bullet and have it rebuilt? When it's not clogged it seems to run normal.

If it is at the top of the pump, that should be the primary pump, and before the ring that disintegrates I believe, but not positive. If so, then it is something in the lines between the tank and the pump.

It's the little 90 elbow check valve that is in the top of the pump. It's part of the return circuit. When the check valve gets plugged up it builds pressure in the pump until it will not run anymore.

Sounds like the pellethane ring. Have you taken the timing window cover (held on with two screws) off and checked to see what you find behind that cover? Keep a clean rag under it when you remove it, you may find the mouse turds behind the cover.

I found 8 or 9 little specs and a flake of something out of the inspection port. I pulled it tonight and gonna send it off for repair tomorrow.....I can't win for losing. My little new holland skid steer blew a drive pump too, I need to hire a full time mechanic.
