Thank you both for the replies- I find the most frustrating thing about fixing older machines is tracking down the parts!

Anyhow, the engine is a Kohler K662S, spec code 3966C.

http://www.bestsmallengines.com/pages/p ... ngine.aspx

I have the horizontal-style carberator; I believe it is the one labeled "A5". They show the carb SKU as B-272041.

I guess I am looking for a rebuild kit, although if not available a gasket kit would suffice. if I have to, an exchange carb would work too. This one is just gummed up.

I just called another authorized Kohler dealer this morning in Oregon and they told me the same thing I heard before- everything is discontinued. He did give me a number for a retired Kohler parts guy that has hard to find parts, so if I hit a dead end with you guys then I can try him at least.

Digitup, you can keep the snow and cold up there  I guess we are supposed to get an Artic blast early next week from the cold you have been bottling up- 50s this weekend and single digits next week

Hi,

One of my good friends has a Clark-made Bobcat with a V4 air cooled Wisconsin in it. About six weeks ago, he had his distributor go bad. I happen to have a couple apple crates full of various baler engine bits and so had a spare that fit. :)

There were lots of things that used Kohler and Wisconsin engines, and there's a lot of commonality of parts across machine brands that use those engines. So, when looking, don't get all hung up on the fact it's a Bobcat. Look at what I did: stuck a distributor off of 1950's New Holland baler onto a 1960's Bobcat. ;)

Unless there's something you know for sure is specific to only that one application, you should be able to come up with something. Heck, half the carbs used on most engines were common units made by one of the carb makers (Carter, Marvel, etc) anyway. So, you might not even need to stick with carbs off of Kohler-branded engines.....

Later!

Very true... I've spent a ridiculous amount of money on stuff that ended up junked, but as long as I benefit from the experience it's all good. Heck, you spend $400 on a college course and most of the time they just sit you in a chair and lecture at you.

Sorry you have to find another job. The world will always need an engineer though, be happy you aren't a Professional Telemarketer. I'm glad to have a job in water valve manufacturing, no matter how bad things get people will always want water!

I know what you mean, I help the neighbor push snow when he is shorthanded. I was cleaning out a parking lot in front of a large strip mall a couple years ago, and hit a water valve pipe that was sticking out of the asphalt too far. Given that I was in a small payloader, I won, the pipe lost, but it still kind of jars your teeth when you hit it.

A friend of mine had one of the little melro cats and he got a new float and inlet needle and seat at farm tractor shop.
same make of carb is on a lot of the older tractors.
Yours has a smaller venturai (sp) but the carb is basically the same.
post the name of carb and a pic if posible and i can get some numbers for you.
chris.
Ps ...im a small engine mechanic and have had my way with more than a few of the iron kohlers.
Hi Snowshoveler-

Do you still post on here? Still having problems finding carb parts.

Update on the Skid Steer

Post by Stan Disbrow » Tue Apr 06, 2010 12:15 pm

Hi,

Well, he's still using it. It runs well now, so he must have exorcised all the gremlins.

Looking at it now, it's not such a bad little machine at all. I guess that's true for most pieces of equipment, they're OK as long as they're still working!

later!
