I saw that show too. The thing that amazed me was no heat. Had they heated the track link where the pin goes through, it would have made a world of difference. As for the air hammer, that is what I use on the tough ones too. When they are really tight, I heat the link around the pin, and end of story.
I was a little disappointed in their description of "restored", although for their situation, going any further would be a waste for an outside static display. On the same show, they have shown collectors doing true full restorations, and it is spectacular. Doing a tank makes a crawler look like a kids puzzle. I have heard some horrendous figures as to what they have in one when they are done.

Don't even start with the tanks...LOL, I was on M60A1's/A1RISE (reliability improved selected equipment) M60A3s and M1/M1A1s from 74 to 96. I know far more about those things than I want to.

The place to see old tanks is the Patton Museum at Ft Knox. They have Brit, French, Russian, German and US armor vehicles on display. They also have Patton's pistols and Jeep.

The older M60 series used a Continental V12 1970CID, 750 HP air cooled diesel engine and a 2 speed gm tranny. Held 375 gallons of fuel and could go 310 miles.

The M1s came out the the AGT1500 turbine engine (1500 HP) and a 3 speed Gm tranny. It hold 525 gal of fuel and goes anout 300 miles on that. They are governed down to 45MPH. The tracks will not last long at any greated speeds. When I retired in 96 it cost $28,000 USD to replace the tracks not including sprockets (2 for each side), road wheels (counting the comp idler 16 per side or support rollers. If the sprockes, road wheels and support rollers are ok they are left on the tank and just the track changed.

Tracks systems that are used on US tanks are interesting. The are a live track system with rubber bushings around pins that go through the track block. Then there are 2 end connectors and a center guide that connect the blocks.
