DOT scales giving anyone problems ?

After a lengthy discussion about this exact subject with a state trooper, the not for hire probably won't carry much water. The comment was basically if you were going to an old tractor show, and if you won a prize or ribbon, or whatever, that was compensation, and you were commercial. Finally at the end of the conversation, in desperation, I looked at the guy and said, "So basically you are telling me it is up to the guy with the badge and the gun?" He grudgingly said yes.
