Lets see your toy hauler

Post by waterman28 » Tue May 04, 2010 9:44 am

I have been thinking about building a trailer to haul my 1010 and thought it would be fun to see what you guys were using, so post a picture and lets see.

I like the trailer you drew. Looks like a bumper pull with a pindle hitch. Personaly I prefer a gooseneck style trailer. It destributes the weight of the trailer better and will turn better in my opinion. I will have to see if I have a picture of my trailer to post for you. It has worked wonderfuly for me. It is about 28' long and has a hydraulic back end that will lower to make a ramp. Comes in handy...

J.D Collector
Sounds like a great setup. Is it a dual axle? I already have a triple axle set so I am kinda stuck. Have to use what I have. I may look into the goose-neck pull.

Yes, it has tandom duals on it. As soon as I figure out how to post a picture on here I will post one of my trailer so you can see it. I love going to tractor shows and just walking the parking lot to look at everyones trailers. You can get a lot of great ideas from it.

I have a 1955 Miller Tilt-Top trailer that I use for my tractors and skid steer loaders. It is a flatbed trailer with a wood deck and single truck brake axle (20" wheels) with 4 ton capacity. It uses a bulldog coupler. The best part is that it tilts so no ramps are needed. It also tows really easy because of the single axle.

It has its drawbacks as well. It is difficult to find brake parts for it. It tends to "hop" over potholes and bumps when empty because of the single axle and lack of spring suspension. It is also pretty narrow between the wheels (I think 76 inches) and they protrude above the deck so I can't load wide tractors. I had to upgrade it with fenders and lighting and a backup brake battery to meet current safety standards.

It is sort of unique so thought I would share. I will see if I can find some pics to post.

Tigerhaze,
Sounds like a great trailer, big single axle trailers seem pretty rare.

THAT is an altogether righteous rig, Herr Thomson! I'm REALLY taken with the ramp tail & the front rack.

I wish I could take the credit for it but I bought it from an old friend of mine who had to get out of the hobby due to health reasons. He made the hydraulic deck on the back because he was too old to mess with ramps. He also made the jack in the front hydraulic so he did not have to crank on the jack to connect and disconnect. I love it though. It has an 8,000 lb. winch on it to drag stuff up and the deck being steel helps with that. You just have to make sure you cary some rubber pads to put under your crawler or steel wheeled tractors to keep them from sliding around. Hope the pics. helped.

Hi jdcollector,
I am interested in the hyd ramp set up on your trailer. When it is in the up position is there a lock on it to keep it in position if the hydraulics were to bleed down? How long is the ramp part? Are there two cylinders or one to control the ramp?
Thanks

Scott,
When the ramp is set in the up position there is a brace that swings down and locks it in position. It is kind of like the hydraulic lockout brace on a loader when you work on it. There are two hydraulic cylinders to lift the ramp controlled by one lever at the front of the trailer. I have seen trailers with hydraulic setups that are controlled by an electric over hydraulic setup at the rear of the trailer. The ramp section I think is either 5' or 8' long. The trailer overall is 28'. You can park about 7,000 lbs of weight on the back of the trailer and it still lifts it and hauls just fine. Like I said, I love the set up and it makes picking up dead Deeres a lot easier. If you like the idea of the trailer you ought to look at a tilt bed. They are cheeper and will do about the same thing. I would go with either one. I'll see if I can get some more pictures of the trailer and post them for you to see.
