New help on shooting range question?!?!?!?

Post by Lavoy » Wed Feb 23, 2011 5:31 pm

Okay guys, I need some help. I am the current president of a local non-profit shooting range. We are working on our phase two expansion which is an underground 100yd rifle range. I am really having trouble finding any info on current ranges which I will need to have to file for state funding. The only references I have found so far is one in Springfield, IL, and maybe one in the Grapevine, TX Bass Pro Shops. If you guys know of one in another location, please let me know. Or, if you have been at one of the two I mentioned above, let me know.
Thanks,
Lavoy

Lavoy,
The only one I know of is at a ammo Manufacturer in South Dakota.
My Brother has seen it and showed me pictures of the above ground view of the target "house"
They burried I think he said 18 inch cement pipe for the 100 yards (Strait!) then dug the pits for the shooting room on one end and the target room on the other end. essentially you are shooting down a cement tube.
Don't know how they built their "stop" behind the target. The shooting room has to be louder than hell but he said it was not loud above ground.

Some of the board members toured the ATK(Federal) plant in Anoka, MN last year, and they have tubes. I have an e-mail into them to ask for another tour. That will give us some additional info as to design, but I need to find tubes open to the public. Part of the grant application process will be showing projected useage and revenue, and I need another commercial or member owned range to use for comparison.
We are looking at a 4' X 16' X 100yd underground "tube" with a building on each end for entrance and trap maintenance.

Lavoy, Whats the matter? Are you tired of using those crawlers to push down the snow drifts so you can see the targets at the outdoor range?? Or just want to stay warm enough so the sights don't shake when its -10 degrees! Pat

Hi Lavoy-

I am assuming you are focusing on rifle tubes, as you can imagine there are a lot more indoor shooting ranges for handguns.

Bass Pro Shop in Springfield, MO (their national HQ) also has a rifle tube open to the public. I have used it before, and it gets a lot of use as that Bass Pro Shop gets several hundred thousand visitors a year.

I believe there is an undeground rifle range in Las Vegas where the public can rent fully automatic weapons- I forget the name of it but it is fairly well known.

That is what I am looking for. Could you get me some pics of it if you are in there again?

Hi Lavoy-

I don't go down there regularly (around 3 hours away), but here are some photos/information I found online:

Lavoy,
Talked to my brother Sunday, said that tube in Western SD was 24 inch not 18.

Lavoy-

Here is some more info:

This is probably the one you heard about in Springfield, IL (Bullet Express):

This is another one I found in Wichita, KS (Bullseye Shooting Range):

And here is another one in Sprignfield, MO (it appears to allow all types of rifles indoors, but you would need to verify):

As you can tell, us Midwesterners value our 2nd Amendment rights!
