Need a PTO Drive Shaft for JD 350

Post by NickC » Thu Jul 14, 2011 1:32 pm

Just wondering if I can buy a PTO "powershaft" attachment for my JD 350. If anyone knows of where this assembly can be purchased either new or used, please let me know.
Thanks,

Any farm tractor dealer can make you a pto drive shaft. You will need to know how much torque you require, or to tell them your application. Then with your implement attached you want to know the distance between the tractor PTO shaft and the implement shaft (you want the arms to be horizontal to the ground, the shortest distance on a tractors 3 point hitch). The inbetween shaft needs to be "sized". Too short the ends of the drive shaft will seperate, too long and you will damage the drive shaft universals.

Exactly. KenP. My dozer will come in real handy as a power source for a nice generator head I spotted. y machine just has the flat cover on the rear of the trans. Thanks for the suggestion.

Keep in mind that at full throttle a 350 spins the PTO at well over 750 RPM, so make sure that anyone that hooks it up to a generator knows that first.

Thanks Lavoy.
From what I've learned so far, the rpm would need to be ratio'd up to 1800 for this head to output properly. No problem for the 350 with its base horsepower, torque and governing. Doesn't look like I'll be generating anything but talk unless I find a shaft.

Correct, it would be, but the input speed will be 540RPM, which is 16 or 1800 engine RPM if I remember correctly.
Power will not be an issue, just didn't want to see you blow up your fancy new generator.

Actually over turning a generator will change the cycles of the frequency. Instead of having 60 cycles per minute you may end up with something around the upper 70's? This is why some engine driven generators have a frequency indicator.

Just received an estimate of over $1,700 for the pto shaft assembly. Looks like I'll be generating my power a different way!
