New tool (to me)

Post by cdunn » Tue Sep 27, 2011 11:51 am

I just added a new tool (to me) to my tool box. I'm sure many of you already own a hand held, battery powered, fiber optic video monitor. It works great in that you can examine the inside of the steering clutch housing by only removing the inspection plate and inserting the optic cable. When adjusting the steering clutches on any dry clutch crawler, it is very important to know when the throw-out bearing just contacts the pressure plate fingers. Since you can't see from the top, by manipulating the optic cable around you can bring it into clear view. On these older tractors where linkages are worn ect, it is hard to get the adjustment right even going straight by the book. A little tweaking is necessary, and this helps a lot doing that. Also, you can determine if oil or water is present, and I am sure many other uses can be found. These things are a little expensive; Home Depot sells one made by Ryobi for $130.00, but for me it has saved me a bunch already.

We got one a while a go that is small enough to do tubes and hoses has some collapsed inner liners in hoses and you cant tell any other way yes you can do crazy things with it .We have checked a truck transmission while still in the truck for a bad bearing and it worked great.I know they use it in the shop all the time.Digitup.

The great Importer Harbor Freight sells one they call a Digital Inspection Camera and last weeks paper had it on a coupon at $69.95 plus tax. Haven't used it yet but it also comes with a small magnet to fish items out of bad places and a small mirror to see around corners. They both clip on the probe end. It displays images on a 480x234 screen (about 1.5x2) or send to an external monitor. The end of the probe is 16 mm so it may have problems going into some spark plug holes.

Hi !

I bought myself a ondoscope camera for pics & video for $19.00 ,
you connect it to your laptop and it works fine , maybe not as quality
than yours but I can do the same thing so far , the only caveat is that
you have to have the laptop .

Found this on e-bay the other day, I also bought a laser digital thermometer
and a no contact digital tachometer , very nice little gizmos for 10.00 on e-bay .

maybe one day I will need a bit more quality but for now I'am satisfied !
Dig in boy !!

This may make the christmas wish list!
I really need to quit falling asleep during movies. I miss out on so many practical applications.
