thinking again....
thinking again....
I was bird hunting today and ran across a parked 40. No not a crawler...but a nice little wide front utility type wheely with 3 pt. I haven't checked out if it's for sale/price yet. I talked to the farmer in the field and it has been parked there at least a yr. The owner layed it on it's side and busted the manifold and bent some tin. He tried welding it but . I could get shot hauling another tractor home when the last one isn't running yet...

Tell her it's her fault for not getting out there and getting it running!
Rick
OH yea before you tell her that hide the guns and ammo!
An odd thing about the tractor, it had the "power shift??" rear wheel rims. I think that is what they're called. Loosen the bolts and adjust width by sliding them on a track inside the rim.
Was that an option or put on later? I remember a Case wheely we had when I was a kid that had those, around 1960??

I believe I have seen an add to sell a JD 435 that had the Power Adjust (I call them) wheels somewhere. I know my '57 M-M 445 has them. In fact, most of my M-Ms have them in 38" wheels.

I've learned that wives are like bird dogs... Bring things home and hide them and when they find what's hidden they go on point! Then what's next is usually not a good thing!!! I've also learned that forgiveness is always easier than permission!
40 plus years working on JD 350s, 400Gs, 450s and other equipment both Ag and Construction.
Sent the guy a check today. I looked it over again yesterday and it'll take a fair amount of work and cash to really make it nice.
On the other hand, there's a couple of parts I could use on it (hyd lines, pump, 3 pt parts) and a line on a guy that would give me at least what I paid for it, after I've remove a couple of items.
Since I already have several projects waiting, the second option ain't bad

One thing about it, it's running and everything works that's still on it. It doesn't need much of anything but wiring, new guages, tin and paint. I'm not sure about the radiator yet though. It has a couple of casting repairs that are ugly but appear fine. The tires are old but near new tread.digitup2 wrote:That old Deere would look real good sitting in the shed beside the crawler.Digitup.
The only problem is I'm really out of shed space.
40 wide-front tractor
hi Gus, nice find! good price too! i don't see many 40 wide-fronts at the shows. i hope you decide to fix it or sell it to a good home. you should be able to get many times over what you paid for it and use that money to buy your parts and you should still have money left over and the machine also gets to live! just my 2 cents. good luck! Nice Find.
My wife is pretty forgiving, particularly when I turn a profit and share some of it with her - a dinner out and she rolls her eyes less when a new toy follows me home.
