Okay I have decided on how to build my shop. I am going to remodel the front part of the existing shop into a machine room for my lathe, mills, and the surface grinder. This room will be 12' X 20', to the north of the shop I am going to build on a 10' X 12' addition that will house my heating system (boiler, fuel tank, heat exchangers, pumps and controls), the air compressor, dust collector and power tool storage. The addition will require the machine area ceiling framing/attic floor to be rebuilt also, so I can build the new roof over the two areas. I plan on making the attic area into loft space. That space will be accessible from the following area.jtrichard wrote:lets see some before and after shop pics?
Once the front of the shop is complete I will add a 30' X 38' addition on the back(east) side of the shop, that addition will give me a total of 1500 square feet of space.
Since I decided to save the front of the existing shop, I have to do a few repairs to it. The first repair is a new man door, to enter the shop. To put in a new door I had to repair the foundation that was cracked under the existing door. Since I had to dig down to the bottom of the existing footer I am installing drain tiles also. The footer will be back filled with run of bank gravel.
Photos of work so far.
To start this project I had to remove a shrub that was outside the front door of the shop. I dug it out and moved it out of the way.
The pad that had been outside the door.
The foundation dug out. The bright spots are snowflakes.
