Great something else I need money for. Killing last of credit card on the head and gaskets.

Love how these people on E-bay are selling used abused parts for twice the cost of new.

New from Steiner $35.50Image

Good find.
It is not just Ebay sellers, it is certain tractor parts companies that think they own the market (tried to with buy outs) and now ask rediculous prices.
We can only hope that having few customers and few sales will do what it is designed to do to a company.

Nice to know, I may give you a call after the gaskets if I have the money for the diverter.

Well supposedly my parts come back from the shop today. I will also be getting a new diverter valve from Steiner. Hopefully I dont need to size it, but I will find out when it gets here.

Got my new felpro gaskets yesterday. HS7744SBX is the part number. The lead washers have been replaced with copper ones. At least the gasket kit came with all sorts of extras. Some gaskets I have not seen in my take apart. Probably for the other models. Its good because I thought I was going to have to peen a new lower gasket for the upper pipe from cylinders to radiator. Alas it did not come with one for the radiator to the pipe connection. I will probably use black permatex for that. May even use a light film for the other end as well.

After its back together I need to get it timed. Then hopefully a vid of it running!

Lavoy I will probably contact you for the gauges from Steiner. I plan on getting the white background with black lettering. I know its not original, yet I figure with my ailing sight, it will be a darned easier to read.

Aww HELL!

I got it so close to being back together. Radiator back in place, fan support in, upper water pipe bolted in.

Fan blade is on backwards, it presently hits on one corner of the fan to the upper pipe connection to the radiator. @$%#$@*%$!!!!!!!

Just turn the rest of the tractor around.

Cannot count how many times I got something together and had to tear it back down for one reason or another.

On a different note. Did some more work on the tractor today. Trying to get a 1 wire alternator to fit correctly. Heck I still dont know if the silly thing works, it may only be a belt tensioner. The original casting for the generator made the alternator stand 2 inches too high. I think I have it resolved, update tomorrow maybe.

Put 4 gallons of antifreeze to the cooling system. Uhoh got a leak some where. Not leaking from the new head gasket. Will take the tablet outside to try and inspect it. When you get my size, trying to defy gravity and climb up from a crawl is a interesting challenge. May go under the knife for it, eating less doesnt work anymore.

On a brighter note the diverter now has a support to keep it from leaking exhaust gasses. Used a piece of 2" pipe. Cut it in half and drilled a 3/8 hole through the side. Fits like a charm Will try to remember to post pics tomorrow.

So here are the more recent pictures.

This one is to where I am. Gas tank is off to the side, waiting for me to finish up some details.
Image

Here the diverter bracket that I made from some 2 inch pipe. You may notice the alternator is not in place yet.
I was trying to mount the brackets directly to the inside of the frame, yet the alternator didnt have full range of motion.
Image

The new alternator bracket. The alternator has full range of adjustment now. I still need to paint the bracket and where I drilled.

Looking good!

It was said of a farmer years ago that was a die hard John Deere tractor man. He ran several diesels.
The competition was always after his business. They asked him what it would take to trade him out of his JD's. He told them when they built one that burned so little fuel that it would run by simply having an oily rag over the fuel tank.
Maybe you do not even need to put the fuel tank on it, just a gassy rag over the intake.

Hmm does farting count? Oh wait this is only a gasoline tractor and not an all fuel.

I drizzled some fuel into the carbs, about a quarter cup. I got one horacious KABLAMO! (wife asked me not to do that again) and a puff, and that was it. Hence why I think it needs to be timed.

Yea, it would need to be an all fuel for sure to run on human gas.
Now if you can fart enough to keep one running, I am glad I am way down south of you!

Well I figure I need to check the timing on the tractor. A big thankyou goes to Alabamafrog for his pdf file of the manual.

Alas years of neglect and the 5ATDC mark that is supposed to be on the flywheel isn't there anymore. In the picture I have
circled what I hope to be the correct marks (Richy at McGrew Tractor Parts thinks it is). Waiting for the green paint to dry,
then I will go and use some correction fluid and paint a white line across the dimple.
Image

I did check the points. They were not even close to the .022. At least they are now.
