A joke my Dad used to tell.

Post by Willyr » Sat May 26, 2012 8:19 pm

One of my fathers favorite jokes.

There was a man out west that was notorious for telling puns. His puns were so bad
they were punishment. So the town got together and decreed that he was to be hung.

The man forlornly sat in his jail cell awaiting his death. The next day some of the town folk had a change of heart and commuted his sentence. With one requirement. That was that he was to tell no more puns.

A newspaper felt a interview was in order.

The paper asked for his opinion to which he declared.....

No noose is good noose. So they hung him.

I am going to use your fathers fine joke at my business to help me make a good point with my staff.

You see, at my Cheese Store my staff are required to change at least weekly the chalkboard sidewalk signs that are placed outside the front door and the side door of the Butcher Shop. I reward clever ideas that create sales but often (too often) the signs are growner puns that are usually cute, but not very helpfull at making sales, like....

To Brie...Or not to Brie...

and..

Beemster me up Scotty
(Beemster is a brand of aged Dutch Gouda)

etc., etc.,

So... thanks for the joke, helpful and funny.

There used to be a local that would post puns (no they didnt hang him) at a gas station. Some of the more memorable were;

Go West my son. Take the bus.

34-23-34 a great stocking stuffer!

Go for the gold tonight! ROB A BANK

Lettuce apologize for the puns, we kinda got carrot away.

You have me re thinking my problem with puns.

I will dedicate one sign to the punsters for a while and see how it goes.

If someone comes in with a noose...

I will blame it on the cook.
