My bent wheel

Post by Willyr » Wed Jul 11, 2012 8:44 am

Looking for suggestions to fixing this rim. I am currently leaning toward a shim between the wheel and hub (probably on a lug bolt).

Wheel Fixit

Post by Pammark » Wed Jul 11, 2012 12:06 pm

First of all, it looks OK to me. It turns, it steers, its painted, the tire has tread, what more do you want?

Of course the obvious is to replace the rim. You can whomp-it with a sledge, but that might chip the paint. Another suggestion is to shim under the lug nuts with thin washers. That is a trial an error method.

Some choices for the pefectionist.

You will find that a lot of off road or NHS -non highway service rims have a out of square build to them unless you are having steering issues or it really bothers you leave it ! .Digitup .

I thought the bent rim would wear out the tire quickly.

I agree with others to just leave it. Unless you are doing a lot of Interstate travel (need YOUTUBE video of that) with that 60, it is not going to do any unreasonable wear due to the rim.
BTW, a washer will not fix that type of bend. Only if the center were out of square with the rim would a washer help.
You have a rim that has a wobble. A washer will only change where and how it wobbles.

I went to a tractor show today and they said that if anything I should reverse the depression of the rim. Putting to tires further away from the steering linkage.
