Well the forum is ready to break the 400 mark. Should we send #400 all of our old broken bolts from our restoration efforts as a "prize" ?? Bushings/axles and other worn, beyond hope, parts should qualify too. He should be thankful for such a good place, well kept by Lavoy, to find out information about his crawler, I certainly am. Mora
PS. Lavoy, if my 'little cheapy' impact will hold out I'll be into the steering clutch in a week or so....then you'll hear from me for some parts. I've been takin' pics along the way...I'll need them as a 'caver' would need string or chalk on the walls, to find his way back!!

You know, I was just thinking (yeah I know, scary thought), when we hit 500 members, really should have a big get together. You know the wives won't want to go and be around a bunch of idiots talking crawlers. I was thinking some place with lots of food, good looking women, booze, gambling, but not necessarily in that order.

Lavoy, This sounds like a 'plan that should come together'. Seems like about 40 years ago, with no 'food' in my stomach, I married a 'good lookin' gal from West Virginia, didn't have any 'booze', but took a 'gamble' that has paid back bigger dividends than I could have ever imagined. As the song goes.... 'Older whiskey, younger women and faster horses'...... all that aside.. I have to be one happy dude, what with having my JD440 more than 40 forty years ago !! I think that maybe you need to plan the get together for a 'set' date and then 'celebrate' #500 whether he has signed up yet or has been bypassed. What a great idea you have... BUT maybe the wives would want to show up ... if not just to bug us, a little!!! I'm a long way from ND, but Dad was born in SD and I've been there, so I'll be able to find my way 'back home'. Pick a time and place and I'll be 'crawlin' there. Thanks, Mora

It would be fun, that if for sure. At the rate that we are going, number 500 could be here by August. So far, we are averaging a member a day. Maybe the 500th person should host the event at their place.
I suppose the easiest thing to do would be plan it around a show like Expo or something.

Member's,
I am always left out of the "get togethers"...so how about this time the Member's come to Alaska...I dont really expect that, however We do have 48 ac. ...lemme C that should be about 10.4 Member's to an acre

We can use the nieghbor's sawmill to get that 0.4th Member.

Have a GREAT time!

If we did that, everybody would have to bring a crawler and see what kind of mess we could make of your 48 acres.

Hi,

Now, *there's* an interesting math problem! How much digging space (in feet and inches) would each crawler have if there were 400 crawlers on 48 acres? :p

Man, what a sight that'd be - 400 crawlers all in one place. It'd look like the back lot at the factory, I expect! :)

I guess someone in Kansas would have to be the one to host the party, though, since it's the center of the States, except for those in AK (and HI as well) that are always left out anyway. ;)

If everyone wants to come to ND, there's a few hundred acres we can play on out at the farm.

The Land of Merry

Post by Little John » Fri May 05, 2006 6:37 pm

Lavoy, Well, one fella from around here in 'Merlin' (local Baltimore pronunciation)(AKA the Magicical Land of Maryland, due to our 'elected/selected' reps. in Annapolis) sold his place for a rather large figure and went to ND and bought 2000+/- acres. He then went to the county seat and asked what he needed to do to build a house on it (ie permits etc). He was told that since he owned the land he could build whatever he saw fit. Lovin' ND more and more all the time. (It is sure not like that here, back East.)
For Stan : 48 ac would allow 0.12 ac per each of 400 crawlers, =5227 sf = a square 72' 3 3/4" by 72' 3 3/4" or if you are like me and going around in circles due to a clutch/brake situation, a circle of 4105 Sq Ft. in one of the squares. I just know you wanted to hear this. It easier to figure out than how to get the last 3/4" Cap Dowel Bolt out of my final. Mora

I doubt in our worst areas we have it as bad as you for permits, but anywhere near the cities, permits are required. Right where I am at, I would need permits to do an addition or something like that. At the farm, you maybe are supposed to have one, but no one cares, and no one checks up on it. Things like septic systems have to be installed by a certified installer, but that is about it. Now you know why I live here, that and 30 below keeps the riffraff out.

Hi,

Yeah, it's like that around here as well. Near the popular areas, rules out the ying-yang.

Heck, I bet in Cary, NC you couldn't even have a crawler on your place because it'd put marks in the grass or something like that. Cary is 'one of those places'.

Out where I am, it's like it is at Lavoy's place. Do what you want as long as you don't get the neighbors out of sorts. :)

So, someone actually bothered to figure out the math problem. What a hoot! I didn't bother, myself, even though it had come to mind. I just thought that'd be a cooler word problem for a schoolkid than the usual ones they have! :p

Well, I think that Lavoy's place is pretty close to the center. I'd be up for a drive to ND from NC. Not bringing the 420, though. Not with the fuel prices these days. ;)

We won't be to 500 by then, but if anyone else is going to Expo at the Amana Colonies in Iowa, I will be going. They are featuring the 20 series and exported tractors (crawlers) so I have been asked to bring the 420 all-fuel from South Africa. Dates are 16 & 17 of June.

Should be to 500, but maybe at the wrong time of year. Every fall we have a threshing bee at the farm the weekend after Labor Day. Not a big deal, mostly the neighbors show up and we thresh some wheat or oats, then plow the ground it came off of. Not a big affair, we have had up to 150 people, usually have one or two planes giving rides and taking pics from the air.
