Lavoy ,61 440Ic on eBay

Post by shinnery » Mon May 08, 2006 1:02 am

Lavoy, just noticed an auction for a '61 440IC with dozer blade on eBay. Seller says it has a 4 cyl engine? Could it be a 1010 engine shoehorned in? The carb is on the right side and did not see the distributor in any picture. Just curiosity. The auction number is 7615573200. Also there is an old 440ICD with what looks like a 831 loader, Broken hyd cyl and missing drive sprocket, auction 7616474270. It appears to have a log arch and winch. I am not going to be in the market for either unless I hit the Lotto. LOL

The one with the 4 cyl is a Continental engine I believe, what a cobble job.

Hi,

Yeah, I saw that one, too. At first, I thought 'no, it's a 1010'. Then as I looked closer at the pix, I noticed that many things looked very odd - not least of which was what looked like a flat cyl head. Heck, that's a 440 all right, but one in terrible shape and with the wrong engine in it to boot.

I then decided that this one was perhaps the very worst kept old JD crawler I'd ever laid eyes on. And, I've seen a lot of sad cases. Perhaps not as many as Lavoy has, but enough to know that this particular 440 has not been loved.

The more of these old things I see advertised for sale on eBay, the better my 420c looks! :)

Well it supposedly brought $1675. By the way, Lavoy, that Oliver HG-R rubber track brought $32.9K.

I heard that that HGR, or another one like it was for sale for $10,000 a while back. I looked at the auciton just before it closed and it was just under $10,000. I can't believe that it went that high, I never expected that. Sure would have been a neat little crawler to have.
