I know it's not JD but...

Is anyone familiar with a 1959 F350 wiring harness? I had a dump given to me and after cleaning up the carb found that the battery cable setup looked strange. There's a red cable going to what looks like a ground bolt on the tranny housing. The other cable is dark green/blue? and it goes to the starter solenoid. Is this a positive ground system? I didn't want to just assume the red cable was negative and fry something. If they were negative ground I'll just have to assume the previous owner used whatever cable he had on hand to make up a negative connection. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

Scott

It is possible is it positive ground, but I am not sure. Many things built berore 1960 are.

Has it got a generator or alternator on it? I have never heard of a positive ground alternator. I know Chrysler converted to negative ground when they went to 12Volts in 1956. Not sure about Ford.
I just dug up a 65 Motors truck manual. It shows two generators and two alternators available in 59. The alternator repair section definitely shows negative ground battery circuits. I would think they kept all of them the same. But never say never.

Thanks for the responses guys. Upon further digging through the rubble in the cab I found an old registration which says its a 1962 F350. I then called JOBLOT AUtomotive in Queens NY and they said pretty much it's a negative ground. We'll see what happens once I put a battery in it and hit the switch. The points and distributor cap look to be in remarkable condition for its age. They might have been changed just before it was parked. :) Of course the icing on th ecake would be to put a little gas down the carb and have it fire right off.
