New to JD and deisel-need help troubleshooting

Post by davidn3 » Thu Dec 05, 2013 3:39 am

I just got a JD 2030. I have a lot of knowledge rebuilding and troubleshooting gas engines, but this is my first diesel, and it has me confused. Here is what is happening.

The tractor ran great when I got it. The injection pump was leaking, so I attempted to replace some crush washers on the inlet side. After that, It wouldn't start. The fuel transfer pump wasn't giving much or any fuel. I replaced the transfer pump, and filter. Now there is good fuel pressure up to the injection pump, but not to the injectors. I took the injector pump off. It is the CBC431-3AL type. From what I read on the forum they are non existent anymore. I really don't want to spend the money replacing it. I checked out the shutoff solenoid and it seems to be good. There was some dirty fuel in it so I'd like to clean it.

At the least, I'd like to take the thing apart and clean it, but I can't find any info on these pumps anywhere.

here are the numbers
AT-29734
1245422
CBC431---3AL

Any help would be great. Thanks.

David-

There are a large number of discussion threads for CBC pumps on this board. While parts from these pumps are obselete from Deere, they can still be repaired if the repair facility has the parts in stock.

There is a service manual for the pumps- I believe it it is SM-2045 and can be ordered from Deere. There are also free copies of it floating around on the Internet. It will have the detailed breakdown and disassembly info you are looking for.

If you have the inclination, Jdemaris's threads on injector pumps are invaluable.

EDIT: Manual is SM-2045, not SM-2043 as I originally posted.

Could you provide links? I have read the threads on the pumps but found nothing about service manuals.
