Anybody collect Erector sets?

Post by Lavoy » Mon Feb 03, 2014 7:52 pm

A few years ago, my son and I were collecting Gilbert Erector sets together. He has kind of grown out of it, and no longer has the interest, and doesn't really want to keep them. If anybody is into them, or has any interest, let me know.

James May of Top Gear UK fame has done a number of programs of his own. A couple of them are about Meccano, the UK version of erector sets. Check youtube for "James May Meccano" and you'll see them. Very interesting. He even built a motorcycle of sorts with sidecar to run the Isle of Man TT course.

I'll have to check it out. I know I have seen the Meccano name before, I think they are still in business, but all plastic I believe.

That is different it was Meccano in the UK and Canada then . I have heard of Gilbert but never knew what it was Our Meccano sets were steel built I have several around but never did much with them In those days I collected Carter True Scale farm implements and still have too much around so my wife says .Digitup.
