Ice roads still open here March 21, 2014

Post by Scottyb » Mon Apr 21, 2014 11:11 am

North of here just a couple hours drive the Ice roads remain open well past their usual closing dates again for the second year in a row. On our smaller and shallower lake this past weekend the ice is snow covered and 52 inches thick. Where is global warming now ?

They got their wish, roads are still open.

Hard to believe how much weight can travel on the ice. Over 30,000 lbs on
20 inches of ice. 20 inches does not look like much when I am making an ice fishing hole~!

Hi,

Global warming is a planetary average. As long as the Hot parts get Hotter, the Cold parts can get Colder! ;)

The same applies to duration of Hot and Cold, of course. Hence your Signs....

Our North Carolina Spring is late. Many people planted by the guides, and we frosted up two nights last week. Say Sayonara to the Tomatos.

Don't forget to blame Global Warming!! :P

I used to watch that show "Ice Road Truckers"; those ice road drivers have some intestinal fortitude to drive a fully loaded tractor trailer over creaking ice.

Global warming is where it has always been in the minds of the believers. They believe it is happening just like the people of the late 70's thought we were having global cooling and they wanted to spread soot on the polar caps to try and melt them.

After just coming through two of the coldest winters we have ever had, (much of this past winter the coldest ever recorded here) the idea of global warming is appealing right now ! In fact however, our summer farming season is now two weeks longer than it was earlier in the last century. With the help of crop science and the longer season it is getting to be common to see fields of corn here, something that I had never seen ever in my youth. Warming could be a boon to our farming economy with the diversity of crops that are becoming practical to grow here.

In this area there's no such thing as global warming . the spring weather is two weeks behind and we had a cold winter as well .Our spring run off (the big flush as I call it )went well this spring as it was .Your big flush comes a bit later doesn't it Lavoy ? I Hope it flows well in that area for you .Digitup.

So little snow here, our crest will be non-existent. Some localized flooding on small tributaries North of here a week or so ago, but nothing left to melt here at all.
We actually had summer here yesterday, now right back in the toilet, barely above freezing at night, small chance of snow end of the week.

We actually had so much of that Shit No One Wants that the corn that was at38% moisture when winter hit was caught still in the field .I just took the 145 acres off Good Friday and Saturday We finished on Easter Sunday morning several places we had one foot snow banks still hiding from the sun on the west side of the field but I got it all off in great shape what was standing was at 15 % I just put the little 8 row head on the combine with dual wheels it floated well in the still wet fields almost too narrow for duals but got the job done I took a pick from the combine the other way about then and there were twenty five or thirty farmers all lined up on the road we were the center of attention that day I had lots of help loading trucks with the grain buggie on Sunday morning I got some more picks if any one would like to see them .Digitup.
