I looked into rubber tracks for my little Kubota Tractor and was shocked at the prices given. I figured 10,000-15,000 dollars, but when I got a quote of $39,000 I was blown away.

Putting rubber tracks on all four wheels made sense because it allowed for a pto. 3 point hitch and a loader...all while able to traversing snow and mud, or cross some nail-strewn areas without fear of getting stuck or having blown tires, but I could buy 4 small dozers for what a single set of tracks would cost. (Granted they could be taken off and used on new tractors though), so instead we went with a small dozer.

Chains on the tires work great for me. Use them on my skid steers in the winter and they do all the snow work as well as great in the woods over dead fall, mud, and the like. On and off in little time as well. For nails....you need a crawler !

I got a set of chains, double diamond ice diggers for my Kubota, and they work well on ice and snow and crawling over woody debris while cutting wood, but the problem I have is with snow and mud. There is a small amount of time in December and January where there is little snow and yet the ground is frozen enough for my little tractor to do well, but with snow over a foot deep, it starts to struggle.

Then in the summer, fall or spring...well there is the mud. With its narrow tires the Kubota just cuts through the sod and you end up with ruts. This means it struggles to pull out wood, or puts ruts in your fields while putting up silage.

I just thought rubber tracks would alleviate all that...and it would, but would not be cost effective when they cost that much money.
