Peel and stick tank heater...I am going to try one.

The reviews look OK on this heater. I am going to install one on my 350b hydraulic oil tank. (it has an engine heater already) Often -20 here or colder when I need to use it and the winch does not perform well at that temp. Anyone tried one yet ? I am also hoping there is room on the pan of my 610 air cooled Bobcat for one. First I will test it on the Deere.

To me the smaller ones are a waste of time. I would put at least a 250 on an engine pan, 500 on larger reservoirs. I think their ratings for temp rise per given volume are extremely optimistic. In California and parked inside a building, I don't doubt they work. In ND and parked outside in a wind, 125 watts will warm your fingers and toes maybe. I put a 125 on an MC, waste of time. I put a 250 or a 500, can't remember on a 440ICD to warm up the oil, and a 400 watt immersion heater in the engine.

They do look under powered. I will try the 500 and see how it goes. It is true, the block heaters in our cars and trucks are around 1000 watts each. The in line engine heater on my 350b is 1500 ( however, it does start to melt the snow off of the hood in a couple hours and our cars will start after an hour on the coldest days).

I do need to heat the hydraulic fluid for my winch and.. my old Bobcats really could use something that works on the air cooled Wisconsin's. They do most of the snow work for me and I have three with snow buckets...one at home, at work and, at the cabin all parked outside. I have used the magnetic ones with some success on oil tanks but they are also under powered.

When I get caught not plugged in...the tiger torch gets it done.

Used the wolverine heaters in Fairbanks, Alaska on a Dodge diesel. 150W on the oil pan and 150W on the transmission. From dead cold engine and -40 temps and it took about two hours to warm enough to help. Most of the time I left my truck plugged in continually and it always fired up immediately even down to -52. At .28 cents per kilowatt hour for electricity low wattage was the only way one could afford to use engine heaters. Living in the artic you also learn that propane torches won't work at -40 or below. Propane won't volatize. Had to use the magnetic heaters to warm up the propane tanks or bring them inside the house for a bit to warm it up.
At -50 or below your only concern is keeping you and your house from freezing up! To heck with the equipment!

Or you could move to Texas, You will not believe how good my '92 Dodge CTD starts in the winter. LOL
By the way is the price in that attachment C $ or US $? I recently found out there is a considerable difference nowdays, buying a cab for my new-to-me '06 Kubota RTV900 up north of Buffalo.

this year is starting out to be the hottest.
i'll bet you guys in the klondike would love heated tools...
mine get so hot i have to cover them.
painted the handles white but ya know that doesn't last.

I am using synthetic 0-30 now for engine oil in the winter in the two units that get used the most. (winch loader and 450c dozer) I ordered a barrel or straight 30 from Napa last week so next will be to switch over to summer oil. The 0-30 seems to help get them to crank over a lot better when cold. I also ordered a barrel of Klondike brand premium tractor fluid (Napa as well) so I will be changing out the transmission and finals etc on the 450c soon. I do not know the history of the fluid that is in it, and added 10 gallons last week that I had to rob out of another unit, because of a broken return line and, I was out of everything. I did not buy the synthetic transmission fluid as I have several Deers and I want to get them all on the same fluid. synthetic is twice the price! I thought about it for the dozer, because it is my best machine.

pop pop.....Perfect working temp here right now -10c although, we had to stop the work in the forest yesterday because the snow was so heavy in the AM that we could not see! Much of the snow had melted and then this past week it turned cold, well below freezing so the ground is frozen solid again and I am pushing up burn piles in slough bottoms and making some trails. Also burning the last of the piles made last year. I am alone here hoping for another week of cold !

pop pop, I was telling friends today about your painting the tools white so they wont get too hot to handle. We all could use a good dose of your weather.

I have been outside plenty this winter, working still with the gloves on, since October. I had to do 175 pumps on a frozen grease gun on the weekend. (threw a track) After 100 I had to take a break and come back later, I thought my arm was going to go numb. Lesson to myself....do not let out so much next time, and keep the gun in the house.



I just bet they pump easier in Arizona !

Stan, I do have a 1010 that smokes like that !

however that 450 purrs like a kitten. I bought it at a Richie Bros. sale a while back and had to take the pipeline boom off, you can still see the mounts on the track frames.
