I have noticed while looking at other 1010s on here some have the gear selector on the floor in front of the seat while others like the one I just purchased has it on the dash panel. Is that one distinct way to tell the newer versions from the older?
I looked in the owners manual I recieved with the 1010 but haven't checked out the parts catalogue that also came with the machine.
The parts book does say PC-727-(Jul-66) at the bottom would this give me any reference as to the year.

Congrats, Im not sure about the year or the shifter. Mine is a 64' with the shifter on the floor. I chased the year down by crossing it with the Sn#

Early crawlers had the dash shifter, later was on the floor. The floor shift was also a replacement for the dash shifter, you can tell if your floorboards have been torched, it has been converted.

Thanks for the info guys!I have been reading my owners manual as well as the parts book as well as checking anything I can on this site to learn as much as possible about this machine.
I think I read somewhere on here that the serial number is only stamped on the engine or bellhousing and not on the body itself.I did see one on the loader of this machine but that is probably for the loader.
Any more info is greatly appreciated!

Hi- looks like a fun toy for you.
BTW, from the pics it looks like the left side front idler is at the full range of adjustment but your left track is still loose. I didn't know if you noticed that when you bought it.

Thanks! The guy I bought it from who will be hauling it to my property for me,said the track is a little loose but can be adjusted, how much ????.
I did give it the once over when I purchased it.
After seeing a good dozen crawlers (different makes) this one at $3500 CDN appeared to be in the best shape of all,and was the same price as some of the so called parts machines if not cheaper.
I am sure just like alot of other Jd crawlers newbies I will probably have a few posts in the forums also.

Nice 1010. I've only seen one in person and this one is way nicer than the one I saw. I'm a new 2010 owner. Only thing I can pass on is that there are lots of manuals on the JD official site that you can download electronicly for much lower cost than the official printed ones.
My snow is all gone but for a few patches, looks like you are still where I was in early March. Come on spring!
