Stuck in the mud. Lesson #1

Post by Stretch » Thu May 07, 2009 6:43 pm

I was clearing off an area on my farm and found a spring that shouldn't have been there.
Fortunatly my friend didn't have anything better to do that afternoon so I asked him if he would like a cold beer, all he had to do was bring his biggest tractor over. He showed up with a JD 87?? all wheel drive.
I hooked up a 1 1/2" rope and he was able to snatch me right out.
I did get a little concerned when the rope tightened up and shrank to about 1/2 it's original diameter.

I thought my mudbog problems were bad, but yours takes the cake! You are very lucky the wheel tractor could pull you out- I have had problems even with 100 HP tractors pulling my 2010 but they were only 2WD.

BTW, you will want to make sure you drain your steering clutch housings if they got water in them.

The tractor was an all wheel drive articulated tractor with dual wheels all around. :D
It did the job. 8)
I know I have used the tractor before when he had me harrow some fields. I would pull a 20' harrow and it had no problem. It would role some smoke at first but then keep digging.

Watch those ropes I had a customer get a 3155 stuck and he took a two inch rope and pulled the tractor with a 4650 when the rope was tight he grabbed the rope to steady himself in the mud hole with the palm of his hand and quickly came back with 1/4 inch of melted plastic on his hand .His son came over and got a 100 foot cable from me .I told him to keep it and get rid of the rope .The kid said he could push that rope up hill now as it cooled off it welded the strands together .We can't scrap big amounts of cable in Ontario so I get the old stuff off of a craning company in town and loop the ends this only costs me cable clamps that is a good deal .I have several 8 inch pull straps but I don't like to use them .You can't be too safe when pulling equipment Three weeks ago I was pulling a cement truck out of a soft spot .The driver got his long choker cable out and a ugly light little clevis .As he was installing his light clevis on the truck I put my good one on the truck end and his light one on the 550J .He started to complain but never finished it before I told him to go like this or stay in the hole .His boss had three new clevises for his trucks on site in minutes and nothing was said I figure the truck driver was figuring on pulling the light clevis out of his rad before that truck came out .Digitup.
