Who made the first crawler?
I have heard arguments made that Benjamin Holt did, but then I heard he watched a Centepede (a Lombard Log Hauler patent rights holder) in action in Wisconsin and then came out with his lagged tractor.
Of course everyone from the southern half of Maine claims Lombard was the first to design the first true crawler, but of course the boys from Patton, Maine claim that is not the case at all; that he stole his ideas from his former friend Johnson Woodbury.
Be that as it may, I have seen the patent design for the tracked Miller tractor and they make a pretty strong argument that such a machine was the first.
Any ideas who it was and why? All I know is I am thankful. I like tracked machines.
