Brings back memories...a John Deere 1010 for me back when I was ten and logging.
I have no intention of traveling to my grave in a well manicured body; instead I am going to slide into heaven with a big power turn, totally wore out with busted knuckles, jump off my dozer loudly yelling, Woo Hoo, another Shepard has just arrived!

Hi,

And me on Dad's 420c, pulling on the sticks at 8, and actually pushing dirt at 10. Yes, memories. But, ya know, they all come back from time-to-time because I am still pushing dirt with that same old 420c.

Not fast and hard, mind you. The old girl has a lot of time on her clock. But, slow and easy gets the job done in the end, with it still operating somewhere near properly. :)

Somewhere, I have a pic of Dad on it sometime around 1972. Presuming it was fledgling photographer me with my first 35mm camera with a lens one could focus..... ;)

I need to dig that up and digitize it and add it to the board.

I think making memories like this my main job for my kids. Yeah, ok, feeding, clothing and generally educating them is in there too. My oldest memories are following my dad around doing turns on his little JD in Pennsylvania when I was 2ish. That was back when dirt was new and they had just invented trees though...

Those are the kinds of memories that kids don't ever forget. My sister in law wants to bring out my nephew who is 3 to come out and "drive" my 2010 crawler sometime. I can't wait to do that with him.

My first moving violation was Operating a Bulldozer across Paved Way; it is against the law here and I knew it, but who would have though the Deputy Sheriff would stop some farm kid at 10 years old for the offense?

Some people I tell you; like we don't pay taxes on both sides of the road to help pay for said road.

I must not have learned much; I still do it all the time. Maybe that is why I have a busted front idler? :-)

My dad had a 2010 crawler with clam shell loader and backhoe. I spent a lot of time on it in my late teens and at 21 cut in a 3/4 mile easement road through the woods, many times with my 1 year old son in my lap. He got a kick out of it. They are very fond memories for me. Always the creative thinker..., when he was born I gave him the middle name of Case.... Deere just didn't sound right.... first name is Justin.... wife cut me off when it came time to name my daughter.

Hi,

Edit: oh. A zombie thread. Which, I already had posted to. Oh, well. Never hurts to say the same thing again in a slightly different way! :P

......

Dad had a dozer when I was a kid. I learned on that well before I was ever on a wheel tractor. That was 50 years ago. That 420c is still in my tractor shed for when I need it. :)

I grew up with a 1952 Ford 900 wheel tractor, and a 1965 (I think) John Deere 1010 Bulldozer.

When I was in 5th grade my teacher told my Mom I was a good kid, but that I "lived in a fantasy world". My Mom said that I was actually truthful to a fault. That was when the woman said, "but he talks about driving a bulldozer all the time", and my Mom was like..."But he DOES!"

It should come as no surprise that my youngest daughters first word was not Moma, or Dada, but "Tractor". At first we thought she said "Cracker" until she started pointing at me on our Kubota Tractor. It was a very proud moment for me.

Great picture and your daughter will always remember the event. My daughters both have driven the 420, and their various boy friends of the time loved playing on it too. I have some great pictures and memories of people from all over the world giving "driving the dozer " a try.
I have to get a new picture hosting site established; pictures really are worth a thousand words. Paul
