welcome to JDCrawlers.
use the search feature in the upper right corner, put in MC and you'll have enough reading for the winter.

More trying to determine if this is original... or a cobbed together farmer dozer. he used the winch for pulling tops out for firewood. It that some bastardized rig? or original stuff?

I think the first "factory" winch was for the 40 - 3 roller if I remember correctly. Which was the next model after the mc.

First "factory" winch was 1010, all else prior to that were Allied Aftermarket suppliers that were certified to have their products installed on Deere equipment such as Gearmatic, Carco, Braden, etc. Or, alternatively a manufacturer that was not certified by Deere, but nonetheless made a winch to fit John Deere products.
The blade in the pic is an MC60 bulldozer blade attachment, and first came out on the MC.

Having the winch is a cool factor regardless of its daddy!
If man can break it man can fix it .. it just takes time and money.
