Well, he really didn't but it was sort of his idea. You might remember a few months ago I asked which way folks thought I should go on the hydraulic control levers. Mine being an early 1010CA, the levers normally are up on the console and not on the box mounted on the side. Everybody weighed in on pros and cons but in the end I decided to go with Lavoy's suggestion to put them on the console.
That's when I entered hell. Do you think I could find a single part for a dash mounted hydraulic control? No chance.
The picture below shows the project to build the missing parts. The levers on either side of the compound lever are the pieces I made. The long of the two is made from two pieces and the short one is made from three. The link arm on the right is also one I made.
The way this thing works is the compound lever in the middle free pivots on an intermediate shaft and converts the long throw of the right operating lever to the short throw of the control valve. The other two levers are pinned through the shaft with two 7/32" groove pins and perform the same function for the left operating lever. I'm thinking a bit over engineered but what do I know?
I've still got to find an operating lever or make one but this stuff will go in tomorrow and finish up the mechanical work under the console.
Lavoy made me do it!

Hi,
Hey! I think I have some parts that look just like that in one of the several apple crates that Dad used to store oddball crawler parts in!

Hi,
Well, not really. I have lots of oddball parts in those crates, but they're all ones that apply to the 420c. Dad didn't save parts for anything he didn't happen to have.
I just couldn't resist saying that, though. You *know* as soon as you've finished making up parts for something because you can't find any anywhere, then several pop up out of the woodwork.
