Mighty Mouse

Post by Pammark » Tue Dec 04, 2007 11:15 am

This is not a JD, but it has tracks. It is a Mighty Mouse built about 1950 by Mead Mfg. The driver is my late Uncle George (God rest his sole). It is powered by a whopping 8 hp Wisconsin engine and a 2 speed/1 reverse tranny. It also has a small hydraulic pump to lift the front bucket. There is a trip cord to dump the bucket.

This unit was popular in greenhouses because it could fit in between the narrow isles. This dozer was used to dig a house basement, then sold to my Uncle. He buried it in his shed for 30 years, then we got it out to run. It is good parade material (Note the sign).

Last year I was towing it to start (easier than pulling the rope) and I pulled the right track off. The pins are only 5/16 bolts. That was easy to split the track and get it back on.

Hi,

I have an original Magnatrac, made by Struck, that looks almost identical. Mine has a blade rather than a bucket, and the thing is useless. It digs in OK, and the tracks grip, but the blade then knuckles under and that's as far as it goes. It is useful for puching snow around, as long as it's no too deep. Dad used to use it for plowing around the house foundation where it was too tight going for the 420. Still, they are cute and would be a hoot at shows! :)
