1010CA Bebuild Project, Part XVI

Post by wwattson » Sun Mar 23, 2008 3:23 pm

Been a while since I've posted as I've been pulled in a lot of different directions in the last couple of months and haven't had much crawler time. In this first picture you can see it's in the process of going back together with most of the front end reassembled. Sorry about the somewhat fuzzy picture but my Canon camera crapped out and I'm shooting with my phone.

Image

Here's the left side with the new hydraulic line and fuel line I made. I had to guess on the routing of both since they were long gone by the time I got the crawler. I still need to make the little standoff bracket for the hydraulic line and paint the fuel line but pretty happy with both.

Image

The right side picture with most of the accessories back on. I've just got to thread in the wiring harness and it's pretty much done.

Image

Here's the left and right load links completely frozen. I'm going to soak them as Lavoy suggested and maybe go one better and do an electrolysis experiment on them as well. Hope to have them apart in a few weeks.

Image

This is the geared shaft from the load link crank. I can't quite make out what sort of brazed repair was done to it but you can see it didn't hold up that well. I'm thinking about straightening it, turning out the braze material on my lathe, doing a weld build-up, the turning back to the correct diameter. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Image

And finally a picture of all my other distractions that have crawled into the shop this winter. I was really hoping to get more done with the IH 2606 TLB but everything else broke at once. The golf cart needs an engine overhaul, the spreader needs it's axles straightened, the forklift just needs everything done it it and the snowblower is one I just finished replacing the auger bearings and skids.

Image

All for now. Would appreciate any help you can offer on what to do with the geared shaft. More soon.

Your idea on thet shaft repair is agood as any I could think of, would just comment that when you remove the brass, to make yourself a nice "V" to start the weld in. How close to the repair area do you need good threads?
Can I bring one of my 440s up there and put it in line for if you run out of projects?

It looks like I should be able to get all the brass cleaned out without getting into the threads so I'm hoping not to lose any of them. On the other hand, even if I lost one or two threads it wouldn't really be a problem given the function. I'd just need to make sure the other side is at least two threads from the top.

Thanks for the input. It's the little stuff like this that eats up a bunch of time. Got a replacement camera on the way from geeks.com. They've got a great deal going through the end of the month on a Polaroid 7.0 megapixel camera for $88 with a 512MB SD Flash for free.
