1010 track master pin removal tool
1010 track master pin removal tool
If the pictures have downloaded you wil be able to see the tool I tried to discribe. The view on the floor shows the bending caused by use. To use this again I will add a gusset to the pipe end after straightening. I had to remove the cylinder safety guide as it was welded on after inserting and extending the cylinders piston. The next guide will be made of pipe large enough to allow the insertion and removal of the cylinder. I used what material I had lying around to make this unit, but if I were to buy steel specifically for this project I would use 3" channel, Two pieces back to back with 3/4" pipe nipples in between. Makes a very rigid strong back. I will answer any further questions just e mail me.
I looked at those units before I started making mine. I don't have a 100 ton portapower so I fabricated it with a 10 tonner in mind. Even though it did turn out a little light, I used it successfully in removing the pins from my tracks. Before using again or were making another I would beef it up as I discribed earlier. Mark.

A master pin press might not work if you have the original style headed master pin. I would guess that it will not go through the pin receiver on the press. Master pin presses are designed for drive master pins typically found on larger crawlers, however you will see them on the small crawlers as well. I use a large air hammer on master pins, had the best luck with that. Otherwise, a big hammer and punch, but that is kind of a pain at times.
WTC used to make a master pin remover like stmftr is making, but it just had a clamp to hold it to the pad, and a long shaft that you hit with a hammer.

Bill,
Trust me, you don't want to hear from them even if the jerks would call you back. I think they quoted me $1400 7 or 8 years ago, told them I would have to pass. Not that I begrudge anyone a profit, but there has to be at least $50 worth of material in that thing, okay, maybe $30, but I was giving them the benefit of the doubt.
As to somebody being inclined, sounds like a project for Bill.

That is an awesome idea for a pin punch, maybe I will make one. The thing I would do different is put tension springs between clamp and striking pad to keep the thing on the pin and not fly into orbit after bouncing off from a good whack. Probably should try to come up with some tool steel for the pad and rod.
