Finally a pic of the latest project.

Post by Lavoy » Tue Jun 17, 2008 4:42 pm

Here is a pic of the latest project. It is done and is leaving for the Two Cylinder Expo tomorrow morning. The crawler is a 430 with the "heavy duty front protective equipment" option, more commonly referred to as a hardnose.

That is a brush rake on the front for piling brush or stumps or whatever. It has a Gearmatic 8A on the back for pulling logs. As for the rubber pads, that is only for parading and showing, it should have grousers on it.

Hi,

We had one of those. Came with the 420c. It had never been used. The dairy farmer that originally bought dad's 420c bought both the 62 blade and the root rake.

he never used it, and neither did we. I left it sitting out behind the barn when I sold the place in NY. I didn't think I'd ever have a use for it, and didn't want to be bothered moving it.

I left a bunch of stuff out behind the barn - the barn scraper blade and frame for my old JD 'M' tractor, and the one-bottom land plow for it as well. There was an old disc, worn-out sickle bar mower, etc, etc.

The folks that bought the place thought that the old iron looked good sitting in the weeds around the barn, so they were just as happy that the junk stayed.

Well, the dozer root rake wasn't junk, of course, but the rest of it had been quite well used. That mower was most decidely junk, that's for sure.

Sorry that I left the root rake now. Someone could make use if it, I bet. I know I was right, though, I've never felt that I ever needed the thing....

Later!

Stan

Some things never change, "one man's trash is another man's treasure."
My grand dad never owned a JD, he had Allis Chalmers all the way. I recall my dad hauling "junk" to the junk yard when I was young. I wish had kept some of those parts, they would be worth something to an Allis collector now.

Was the hardnose ever available for the 420? I saw that setup in the 420/430 parts book.

I was actually thinking of building a brush rake that slips over the bulldozer blade so the teeth stick down 4" past the blade or so. Didn't know they made one.

I definitely want to build a set of snow wings like Lavoy has on one of his for moving snow.

Yes it was, a friend of mine has one.
I saw a factory brush rake years ago, it was for sale, and yes, guess who was too stupid to buy it at the time!
