Someone needs to take my checkbook away :)

Post by JD430C » Fri Jun 27, 2008 8:34 pm

went to southern NH today to buy some parts for a 2010 industrial wheel tractor i bought 2 weeks ago and ended up buying this 440 while i was down there. been sitting for 15 years, but the chain, sprockets and idlers look good. cant tell if the motor is stuck or not, but for $500 i didnt care. hope to get it home next week so i can tear into it.

Wow! Talk about a bargain!

There is no way you could go wrong on that purchase.

Isn't the winch alone worth well over $500?

The winch is the one accessory that I wish I had with my 440.

Hi,

Ah! So, *that* is the 440 I missed going with you to see when I was there the other day and your wife had wanded off with your truck!

Looks fairly decent, really decent for the $500 bucks! :)

It's in a lot better shape that that 40c you have, anyway!

After seeing your place, I've decided that I have not nearly enough old iron sitting in my yard. All I have is that 430w, and it'll actually run should I put the starter back on and a battery in it. Not run *well*, mind you, but run it does. I need some more stuff that won't move unless you yank on it with a big chain. My place just does not look like an old tractor shop - not enough iron in the yard! :P

After I find you a truck and haul it up, I might have to drag something back down. That'll help with the 'look' of my place and will even serve to keep the trailer from bouncing too much on the return trip! ;)

Later!

Stan

Winch manual

Post by Paul Buhler » Tue Jul 01, 2008 7:24 pm

Hi Andrew:
Nice find; I hope it is in as good a shape as it looks.
If you email me, I can send you a PDF copy of the Gearmatic 8a/8g winch manual. I found it useful getting mine working. Paul

evening guys. thanks for the offer paul, but i have a copy that i bought almost 15years ago for the gearmatic on my 430c. stan i will send u a PM in the next few days concerning the truck and more iron :). the 440 was in pretty good shape, from what i can tell its a 59. has some welds, but not bad for a 440. ended up doing some trading today, and traded both of the 440s for the 2010 my friend has. he figured two junk 440s were better than a working 2010 :). i will post pics of the 2010 tomorrow. i didnt want to get rid of the 440s, but he kept nagging and i needed the motor so i think in a few days i will realize it was a good trade.

Hi,

Uh. Ok. He traded one working dozer for two that don't......

Good for you, though, with that other 2010 taking up most of your shop space with pieces strewn about waiting on a motor. You can only work one project at a time, anyway, and that one *in* the shop must come first. I wonder what other engines one might be able to stick into a 2010? That 'new' 2010 dozer doesn't have to stay original, right?

I may go look at a 450C this weekend. It looks decent enough in the pix, but of course no close-ups of the usual trouble spots. Gotta go *to* it to find out the answers to *those* questions. It has an oddball outboard blade on it. Two lift cylinders, but only one angle/tilt cylinder. Looks like it pivots on the left side, and the one cylinder angles and tilts simultaneously. Again, gotta go look to figure it out for sure, though.

Have a fun -and safe- 4th if I don't chat at ya before then!

Later!

Stan

hi stan, the plan at the moment is to rob the motor out of the 2010C for the 2010I. then eiher i will fix the 2010 or i will use it as the base for my "4010" crawler :). i still have the PAT for a 450 if u buy the one u are going to look at.

Hi,

Ah, cool. I've not been looking at non-PAT 450's, but knowing there's a PAT readily available for one means that I'm going to start eyeballing machines I've been passing up. :)

Have a happy 4th all!

2010 is different frame than 450, I wonder if the mounts are the same?

lavoy, i have a PAT for a 450C and a PAT for a 2010 and they are totally different. 2010 PAT is a weird critter, never seen one like it. i will take some pics of it and post it, as its still off the machine.

DOH, I read it wrong, thought you were trying to put a 2010 PAT on a 450, never mind.
