Just a few pictures of my 2010 pulling in a fir windfall.

The last picture is of a Stihl 066 with a 36" bar.

We grow some nice trees here in the Great Northwest.

Wow, you can actually move those logs? Reminds me of when the town dumped a bunch of fill behind my dad's shop and left a maple tree trunk about the same size across. I tried yanking on it with a tractor and 1/2 chain and dragged it all of 30 feet, then gave up and set fire to it where it sat. It burned for 3 days.

You could probably make good money selling some of that for lumber.

Nice pic's Brian. Isn't it fun to play a little. Nice timber, trade you some hardwood for some Fir.
You should have an arch make skidding a lot easier. Looks like a family event, that's good.

Thanks for the comments guys,

Yeah, I wish I had an arch. That butt cut was a bear to pull. I missed out on one about 15 years ago. $100. It was gone before I heard about it.

As far as cutting it up for lumber; I work (now very part time) in a sawmill. The employee price for a sling load of kiln dried 2x6-20' is $297. If I cut it up into 16" lengths and haul it to Seattle it's worth $375 @ $250 a cord.
I might have to start doing that if the unemployment runs out.

In any case it's cheaper for me to buy lumber from the Mill rather than pay someone to come out and saw up a tree.

I bet that 2010 knew that log was behind it .I love going to the bush with a crawler and a couple of saws .My wife knows she won't see me till dark when those plans happen .My biggest bar is a 30 inch for my 066 I bet that Stihl will throw the saw dust like crazy off that bar when you are workin it .Love those wrap handles too I got one on a 660 artic the only way to go .I take my old 450E as the bush is to darnd hard on the new style dozers with the new style cabs on them .One branch in the wrong place and it is off to the Deere parts counter again next work day !!.Digitup.

066 Stihl

Post by 2010OWNER » Thu Feb 05, 2009 9:11 pm

Digitup,
I put a new chain on that old Stihl just for this special tree. With that 36" bar sunk all the way in, it just dropped through the tree like it was cutting butter. Hardly made the saw grunt. It does like to be refueled though.
As the old race car saying goes, "there is no cure for cubic inches."
