1010 Roll cage

Post by fixedforever » Sat Apr 04, 2009 5:18 pm

I just finished the roll cage on my 1010. It seems safer now with the back screen, roof, and seatbelt. After running the machine for maybe 8 hours now, it works well, the only problem it has is the left steering clutch slips sometimes at full power. I played with the adjustment, but it didn’t change anything. Does anyone have any information about replacing the steering clutch? It looks like the track, sprocket, and final drive have to come off to get to it. How hard is this, will I need a service manual? And the front sprocket bearing seem to be wearing out, anyone know about that?

Hi Andrew

Nice job on the cage, I built a four post cage. the front post I mounted on angle iron welded directly to the frame rails.

Hope your cage can be disassembled easy. To do the clutches you have to seperate the tracks, drop the rear skid plate. Remove the fenders and the drive spocket. Not a fun job.

You"ll need a service manual, the Jd number is SM2034, I'd get the Deere one, pricey, but very detailed.

I made a tool to knock the track pins out, will try to post photos, when I find them. Worked well, had both my tracks apart in a half hour.

Lavoy has all the parts you will need.

If you do a search of the site you will find several threads about clutches.

Good luck, Terry

Also notice your tracks have a lot of sag. If you need to reebuid or replace the tensioners this is the time to do it.

Hey Hey Andrew. Cage looks real good brother also your paintjob. You need to have a pic of all of your toys together with the camo paintjobs. This guy has used cases of camo paint and has truly mad his vehicles stand out.

Let me know when you figure out how to adjust the steering clutch.
