2010 Ready for work

Post by RedDirt » Sat Jan 16, 2010 2:14 pm

I spent my spare time last year restoring this 2010 diesel. Lots of things to do but a good sound machine with nearly brand new tracks. I had to rewire, new alternator and replace all gauges. New tach cable from NOS at a Deere dealer in WI. Found a belly pan and rock guards from http://www.peilatractorrepair-parts.com/. Re-worked the transmission cooler from the external cooler to an internal cooler in the bottom radiator tank. All new hoses and belts on the cooling system for water and hydraulic fluid. New fuel lines. New Glo Plugs. More I can't think of now. I will say that drilling out broken bolts for the rock guard mounts was really a hard job. On a couple I had to use a plasma cutter to open up and then finish with drill and re-tap. The belly pan and rock guards are miserable to put on so I understand why folks often throw them away. Just not an option for me as I'm in rugged terrain with rocks and stumps etc.

Got a very nice gent in SC, Don Marshburn, to remake all of the decals from photos and descriptions and tracings etc. http://members.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl ... =rosin1212

I used Kirker UltraGlo Urethane and Kirker Epoxy. To stop rust where needed I used Mar-Hyde rust converter and brushed it on and sanded it out. I didn't want to sand blast to avoid getting sand in all the pivots and wear points. I then primed the whole thing with Kirker Epoxy Primer and then finished it with Kirker UltraGlo Urethane School Bus Yellow fleet color, that I tinted per instructions from Kirker who had the recipe for JD Construction Yellow, adding red and black to the yellow to get the color to match the old paint where it was protected over the years.

My thanks to jtrichard, stretch and tigerhaze for all the advice and encouragement along my way.

Boy, it turned out great! I don't imagine mine will look like that anytime soon. :(

I imagine it wasn't easy finding that place for the roller and sprocket guards. Thanks for sharing the vendors you went to for decals and such.

I thought the same thing about the multipurpose bucket. :D
