Can anyone help me justify this purchase?
Hello all,
I am new here to the board but think that all of you here are just great. This weekend I finally jumped off the fence and made a purchase. It's a brand new to me 1963 1010. I will post more info soon. Happy digging.

The only way crawler people can stay happy is to have much more than they can play with or fix.
I get tickled when people ask how much something is worth. My only question is, "do you want it or not"? It is not like they are making this cool stuff anymore.
Looks great! Have fun!

Hi,
Looks good to me.
You have a hole in your yard? No? Well, then: there is your justification!
If you *do* have a hole in your yard, then your justification is that you *don't* want a hole in your yard!
You can test the old girl out by doing what they do in basic training in the Army: dig a hole and fill it in again!
A buddy of mine bought a skid steer loader that needed some serious TLC (as in it had a pile driver for one of the three pistons). Once he got it sorted and fixed up, I had him move some small-ish piles of dirt I had here and there and make me one large pile of dirt.
I had made the small piles by scraping up the sod at the end of one field because my wife wanted to plant some gourd rows there (don't ask, trust me).
I scraped with my 420c crawler/dozer and put the piles on the ends of the rows. That was untidy, though. Looked like a dragon had a bad time with the old bowels along the edge of the treeline.
It looks a lot better with one large pile now. And, it was a good time for my buddy testing out his skiddy.
Hope yours has a lot less trouble than his did....
Later!
Stan

Stan,
Thanks for the suggestions, since I didn't have a hole and I had some stuff that needed to go into a hole I took your advice and made one.
After I got the stuff into the hole that needed to go into a hole I decided that I didn't need the hole anymore so I filled the hole back up.

I had a complete great time doing all this work and felt like I was on top of the world.
I cant wait for something else that needs a hole. I have a couple of mechanical questions that need answers and I hope some of you Deere whisperers can help me out. I will post in tech support.
Thanks
Scott

That looks like fun!
It is apparent that you are not a stranger to working a bladed unit. Nice work.

Wow, I didn't know it would be so easy to justify, I see a lot of old iron in my future.digitup2 wrote:See you just justified having the old Deere!!If I had to justify every machine I bought to my wife she would have had me committed years ago.Digitup.

Hi,
Yep! That's the ticket!!
All old iron is just that easy to justify:
1) You think of a job to use it for on the way home.
2) You get it off the trailer and go do that job.
3) You talk for a week about how great a job that was, and how easy it was to do now that you have that wonderful piece of iron.
4) Your spouse tells you to shut up about that piece of iron, and go sleep with it if you love it so much!
5) You shut up - and never have to worry about hearing anything about 'ugly pieces of iron you never use'. Your spouse won't dare mention it for fear that you'll go on for *another* week about how great that piece of iron is!
I learned this from my dad! That's how he handled mom when it came to pieces of old iron!
Handy!
