Yeah, so the semi was a bit overkill, but it got the crawler home after purchase.
Burying the "evidence". After accidentally setting fire to a bunch of arbor vitae near my house (with a rather large propane weed burner torch), I tore them out quickly so as to avoid a lot of redicule from the neighbors:
Winter of 2004, -15 deg F, the 6VDC starter in the 40C fired the engine right up with no fuss whatsoever:

I have a model 40 4 roller that's bin in the family for at least 45 yrs. It "s been used for commercial fishing on the ice in northern Manitoba the whole time. They're great machines but they don't swim very good. We converted it to 12VDC by changing the 6V generator to a 12V alternator with matching voltage regulator. Kept the 6V starter with no problem. In fact it helped with the extra cranking speed. This system has been good for several yrs with almost all -5 degree F starting. Or colder
