Now the other side. All the cover bolts were snapped off except 1. The 2 you see are the jacking holes after they were cleaned out with a 3/8ths tap. [/img]

The part above the tab on the band is like a push rod with the bottom end cut off. The bottom part goes up inside of it. They are probably rusted together, heat and vibration work the best.

Hi: It looks like you're making progress. Congrats on getting the side covers off intact. To get the brake band off, remove the actuator located on top of the winch - it connects to the remote control lever that mounts on the fender, and you'll have access to the top of the rod that Lavoy mentioned. I soaked the actuator in brake fluid to get it working on mine.
Remove the three brake band retainers (Round plates with two screws each) looks like this may be a challenge - on mine I had to grind one broken screw off and drill and re-tap; not much meat to work with. There is a drift dowel that holds the brake band while it expands and contracts that is exposed near the winch drum and drives out from the cable side towards the cover side - you can see it in your ugh picture. Once you get these parts loosened or apart, the brake band should move more freely around the drum. There are paired alignment screws held with wires that center the bands over the clutch drum that you can't see yet. Good luck getting things cleaned up and free. Paul

I kept working on them Lavoy and they finally came loose. Thanks
I got the actuator off today and... that pin gave in on me today. Thanks Paul. Didn't know it had to come out from the spool side. Anybody hear of this Gibbs penatrating oil before?...... so far so good. Them brake retainer discs are another story. All of them would not budge. So i just ground them off with the right angle grinder and will have to try and retap them later after i get the spider out, and then i can work on the those alignment screws alittle easier
Thanks for all your help.....keep it comming
Jeff

Are those 2 holes in the bottom of the spider tapped and used to push against the drum to remove the spider from the center hub?
