And believe it or not, there are still folks that attempt to justify the rediculous prices with all kinds of suggestions. One of those suggestions is that we would have not have parts if it were not for them.
The truth is, they turned their backs on the hobby which lead to other folks getting in to the aftermarket parts business. Only when someone finally relized that it was a money stream did they buy their way back in to it.
One of the particular companies that they bought has not been the same since.
Yes, prices went up, quality went down. Imagine that? LOL
NOS parts were also reasonbly priced for the most part until they came back on the scene.

It could be mistaken for the engine assembly area in the Dubuque Plant in the late 1950'S!

The goal is for it to be running and all together later this summer (By mid August). I want to take it to the local county fair for display. The other reason is because I'll be getting married about a year from now and am going to be pretty occupied helping with that I guess lol.
I like that yellow primer, I may have to try some.

Very Good. Congratulations for the marriage! I guess you should extend your rebuild a bit... Build some street pads and use the 440 as the luxurious vehicle leading the parade, ''just Married'' sign hook to the 3 point hitch :D :D :D . For shure, you have to negociate with good arguments to make this happen :D .

Well, i didn't work on bull1 for a looong time. Too busy with other projects in the moment. But in the last two days i spend a couple hours on it. I worked on the reverser case. New spring, bushing, put on the pedals on it:

Next step is the transmission. Books ready:

I changed the output shaft big bearing:

Then i tried to press out gears of the input shaft. I damaged the spacer during the process...

Pressing out the gears was also to change the two needle bearings in the center of the gear. Item 9:

But look what i found:

Another surprise. A brass insert machined to feed oil in the bore. Look at the gear on the right. They carved small pockets in it to pump oil... Shure it is not factory. I don't know if i should leave it like that. What do you think of this modification? Any suggestion is welcomed. Thank you.

Your making some progress.
You know if I remember right, that gear that has the pockets might be factory in order to let oil into the needle bearings. I vaguely remember mine having something like that or a thrust washer that had grooves like that.

I would think the needle bearings would hold up longer than the brass bushing.
Keep us posted on how many times you pull the shafts back out when you go to reassemble. It took me 2 or 3 tries because the book is kind of vague and there's only one sequence that they'll all go in and fit.

Thanks Ben and Lavoy. That confirms that the small pockets on the side of the gear are ok. For the brass insert, i don't find this ''feature'' in any part books from 420 to 1010... I think it is not a bad idea although it's not factory. The shaft would be blue or scrached if it was bad... It is actually real nice. The gears rotate well also. I'm not shure what to do with that.

If the shaft itself is good shape with no pitting, I guess I would go back to bearings. My guess is either the shaft was too rough, or the inside of the gear too rough to run bearings again, although I have seen stranger things done. At the least, it looks like a nice job.

Probably a big breakdown happened or a couple of times... Going back to bearings would require machining or a new gear... The other gear on the pto shaft similar to this one is the same also. No needle bearings.
