Great pics!
It is amazing how much power that little engine will make.
Your flywheel and clutch face look great!

Looks like really good progress.
Well things are going good. I was able to borrow a big sandblaster and do the whole undercarriage frame and some blade mounting parts.
Due to our 80 degree march weather last week I got the undercarriage in primer.
I'm working on the rock guards some now, but the major hold up is that I need to get one side off of the center mounting tubes.
I'm doing this because the center tube has the 4 bolts that mount it to the "side frame" well one was broke and one was backed out halfway. Rust was getting between the side frame and center tube where the bolt was backed out and messing things up, so I want it fixed.
Well I can't get that side frame off the cross tubes. I'm stopping tonight to get a heavier porta power so maybe that will do the trick.
I'll get some pics up soon.

I guess Frame work is one of the most time consuming... It is not something that gets periodic maintenance. Rust make big bolts a challenge to remove. I hope you can solve your issue well.whiteclipse16 wrote:Well I can't get that side frame off the cross tubes. I'm stopping tonight to get a heavier porta power so maybe that will do the trick.

My rear crossbar has heavy wear where the final drive bracket is tightened by a cap. It made a groove. It is now loose I don't know if I should fill the groove with some metal paste or grind the bracket and cap to be able to tight it again...
Keep the new pics coming!

Your french is good too 2006 . Speaking both over here is usefull. I learned german and spanish too at school before I switch to electrodynamic course. I don't practice very often... sometimes after too many beers, some german can be heardJD440ICD2006 wrote:Parle vous francais?

Some more progress:
I antiseized pretty much all I could... even springs. Coat of grease where the carrier works. Loctite High temp flange sealant between the casings.
Then I move the jacks... that means the tractor is taking form!
new thermostat. I noticed that the previous owner cancelled the by pass hose that goes from the water pump and hooks to the thermostat housing. He plugged the pump and put the outpout of a block heater in the thermostat port. That will be corrected.
Timing of the oil pump
Today I spend quite some time fixing the distributor and governor: Cleaning, some press work and I had a hard time driving the throttle shaft bushing out.I had to create a kind of ''driver'' and got it. I did ajust the bushing depth like the book says.
Watch your fingers!
The thrust bearing comes with no bushings. We have to press them.
The pins holding the weights were very worn. So I ordered them. The Deere guy told me it comes in a 25 pieces package only... so he proposed me a longer pin number that I can cut.
I cleaned every single piece of the advance mecanism. I didn't find any information about it so I told myself that once cleaned it should work fine. I put lubriplate grease on everything in there
Distributor, oil pan, ''mouse guard'', oil filter on. Some masking tape. I should prime it tomorrow... I must say I tried a shot of the expensive old contruction yellow on the valve cover. Cat yellow primer first and then the JD paint. That is the color... no doubt about it. As I don't have valspar or tractor supply in my area, I need more of that JD paint.

Looking great! Love the various step by step pics, keep them coming.
It is a real shame that many companies are run by accounting departments and "bottom line profits" coupled with stock price pressures.
IMHO, this has been the slow but sure demise of what was once some great US companies.
This answers why the paint (as with most other parts) are sold to dealers at what should be the retail price, then they mark it up from there as much as 35%.
They always want us to believe that theirs is "better", "spec'ed higher", etc., but it is less and less the case.

Looking really good iron popper. Got to love those big progress weekends, I'm sure you slept good Sunday night haha.
Keep the pics coming.
That JD paint is pretty good stuff. It covers nice and has a nice finish too. For it being JD its really not that expensive. I think I got it for $70 or so a gallon. I'm curious as to how good the "Buff" primer is that they sell. It's not very expensive at all. I used Transtar primer sold through NAPA on the undercarriage. The guy said its a good primer and it was a sealer so we'll see.

Thanks. Yeah, Parts prices are so high. Before I knew this site I called at the local Industrial Deere dealer to know the price of a steering clutch fiber disk. The guy told me: 287$ I said: for a set? No...each!!! Lavoy sells them at 20$ and they are as good if not better than the dealer ones.JD440ICD2006 wrote:Looking great! Yes It's finally coming together at a good rythm these last days. Over here the gallon sells around 100$. I use Cat yellow primer as I have an employee rebate and it covers quite good. There is a Deere guy with a service truck at the other end of my street... I might try to negociate something with him! Yours will run this summer?whiteclipse16 wrote:Looking really good iron popper.
