Was trying to build a dike at the farm last week to stop the overland flooding from getting into the yard. My brother had been up half the night with a trackhoe building a dike. I got there the next morning to help out. I was trying to find some non=frozen dirt to contiune with the dike building, so was heading out into the field for some more dirt. Funny how the muddy water didn't reveal the big hole from one of his borrow pits under the left track as I was driving forward!

In many cases of tractor accidents, experience and being aware of what is going on helps save the driver.
I'll bet most of the damage went to the underwear and not to the crawler.

That is not good. And I am sure that water was cold. Probably not the way you wanted to find out your phone was waterproof either.

Yeah, 200 Komatsu, little too far from the crawler to lift it straight out, but after some fiddling it came out. Couple gallons of water out of the engine, trans was milky, hyd tank stayed above water, so no problem there. Assuming no engine damage, biggest issue will likely be ruined steering clutches.

Next time you want to test a waterproof (anything), just fill the tub and drop it in, eh? No need to fill the field full of holes and water like that!
Where in the world is some poor guy in North Dakota going to find someone that can fix old crawler steering clutches?
No need, really. Steering on the right side is OK still! Besides, around here, steering is an option anyway!

So are we to take it that if the ground was frozen then that water wasn't very warm either .Should we ask who hooked the chain up after .I did that several years ago with a D6 and the excavator pulling decided to pull up and a hard fast snap the chain broke as I was sitting in the seat in the water as the end of the chain came rattling over the hood all I could do was bail into the water We ran that old cat for several years with the marks from every link across the hood straight toward the operators seat as a reminder to what could happen .Good to see only your pride was tarnished and the cell phone is OK as well Digitup.
Yeah, I pretty much rode it in, I started to bail as it went over, I was afraid of it coming all the way over and crushing or pinning me, so I was trying to get off as fast as possible. The crawler is in a hole, so not too easy to get out either. The sides are sloped and slippery, and yes the water was just above freezing so kind of takes your breath away and made it tougher to get out.
Once we got the hoe there, I crawled out on the uphill track and leaned over to hook the chain on the loader so we could lift it out.

Now that we know that you did not get hurt, it falls under the long list of "things can happen" in spite of our most careful efforts.
