I think they are talking about two different things, skid plate, and trackframes.
Skid plates are way to springy to bend with a hammer, only way is with a press.

Ken

The press idea is the most ideal way to go if you can fit it in and move the pan around easy enough. You could also try using your backhoe attachment to press on the pan, usually you can get more weight on a concentrated area with the teeth. If that still wont budge it you could need to heat it then push on it.

I pushed start it, and then I shifted to fith gear... You can't see the fear through his full face helmet he had when he saw the awsome power of the 440.. What a pursuit! :)

I believe that the 440C's are the best power for the size and weight, unless you have big stumps and stuff to move.
Hard to believe that two cylinders and the way they have it geared will move as much as it will.

You're right 2006. I'm the only one around here who also believe that!! Surprising power, vintage engine sound.

When I'm done with my rebuilt, the crawler will surprise people around of what a 2 cyl engine can achieve.

When the crawler was half dismantled (engine, clutch, reverser removed), I turn the input shaft of the transmission by hand in first gear just for fun. It went forward on its rollers...! I guess I could hook a 18Volts drill on the shaft and have it run good. Have a well aligned frame, good rollers and you get a war horse. So the 30 hp engine is a real power plant in front of that.

The sound and the amount of power is from the fact that it is a two stroke so in therory its a 4 cyl at least for power. Truckers called jimmys yamahas i have a 10 wheel 18 yrd dump truck with a 6v53 in it top rpm is 2800 a friend says it sounds like a b52 when its coming towards him

Actually, his is a 4 stroke. (440IC) It is the same basic vertical 2 cylinder gasoline engine that JD put in Dubuque tractors for years.
They also offered the GM 2-53 diesel (440ICD) as Dubuque did not build a 2 cylinder diesel.
The 2 stroke diesels sound like they are running so fast because the power pulse sounds are doubled. It "fires" every stroke.
The roots type blower adds to the sound also.
