350B widetrack - Factory Serial Number??

Post by JWB Contracting » Tue Jul 05, 2011 9:27 pm

Here is a pic of a 350B we picked up at Ritchie Bros. It's serial number is 350BW - does this mean it was a factory wide track.

Plan is to strip the widepad kit for our own use and convert back to a narrow pad machine. The outboard axle and bearing assebly are worth $1,500 if you need one in a pinch. We keep a couple in stock at all times.

Sorry a D3B snuck into the yard and the picture. Not many Caterpillars make it into the yard, but it was cheap as it needs a rear engine seal.

GREEN Grass!!, haven't seen any green grass in so long down here in west Texas.... Weather guesser today said since 10/01/10 we are behind nearly 50% in average rainfall. Of course that would only have been a little over 16 inches total. But we have had about 25 days of triple digit temps. The average high temp for June was nearly 101 deg.

The oriental pussy's were always good for a front or rear engine seal the Mitsubishi built 318 cubic inch 3204 engine should have been built with a zipper front and back to install new ones ,They lugged like crazy though .But they were no Deere .Digitup.

D3B

Post by JWB Contracting » Thu Jul 07, 2011 12:49 pm

Actually, we got it from a millionnaire whose wife made him get rid of some old toys before getting some new ones.

They had just rebuilt the engine but did not put in a new rear seal, plus they forgot to put the o-ring in between the bell housing and the engine so it leaks both engine and transmission oil. It does work very well. Also just picked up a wrecked D3B with a heated cab and a winch so might install these as well.

We had to pay a whopping $4K. Undercarriage is decent. We didn't get to fixing it last winter so possibily this summer or most likely winter, depending on how much work we have installing rural natural gas.

Working on Widepads

Post by JWB Contracting » Wed Jul 20, 2011 9:30 am

We run 24" pads on our 450C wide pad instead of the 33" pads as we don't need the flotation plus it is much easier to work on.

On our two loader 350C widepads, we have to cut the 33" pads to about 30" as the loader assembly is wider that the dozer.

They are difficult to work on with the widepad set on, so we normally remove the rails and pads and temporarly install a set of bare track chains.

We have received constant rain since the beginning of June so the widepads have been working.

Shipping rain

Post by dr1zsk1 » Thu Jul 21, 2011 1:09 pm

If you would send us the rain I would gladly give you narrower set of tracks .. LOL
If man can break it man can fix it .. it just takes time and money.
