Straight 350 one of the early ones, and new winch/arch!

Post by Scottyb » Fri Feb 10, 2012 12:10 am

I am picking up a crawler loader next week that I hope to install my backhoe attachment on to. The backhoe came off a crawler that I bought last summer, a 350b that now has a winch and log arch! A big thanks to Jason in Alberta, he spent time with me on a recent trip, showing me how to install, and operate this awesome attachment.

I am cleaning up from a tornado and this winch/arch is working really well.
There was much concern that I did not buy a big enough crawler for the job until I tested this winch. My 350b will do just fine.
Today I pulled several spruce 80' long with 30" trunks at the base. I could not pull them over the one rise on the way to the landing so I would let off the winch until I was over the top then bring them up with the cable. After that, it is down hill to the landing. Once I got the logs up, in close, and up in the air it was second gear no problem.

I came across this second unused older 350 in south east Saskatchewan. So far I know that it needs the frame tightened up and the water pump leaks. But, it runs OK, turns both ways and the hydraulics work.

When I checked out the serial number of this straight 350 with information I found on the Messageboard this is what I found out....

SN - T4E3D 010285

T = Tractor
4 = JD350
E = Crawler/Loader
3 = Diesel engine
D = Transmission Sliding Gear with Reverser

JD350 serial numbers;

1965 10001 - 16183
1966 16184 - 42484
1967 42485 - 64992
1968 64993 - 88280
1969 88281 - 102136
1970 102137 - 117499

the serial number is showing that this is a very early model 1965 350. they appear to have produced 107,499 and this one is number 285 off the line. Just a neat stat, I thought.

I am sorry I cannot send photos at this time, I tried without success. When I get home I will get my kids to show me how....again.
