450, canopy, 6 way, winch......Value?

Post by Scottyb » Tue May 01, 2012 11:31 am

I am tempted to try to buy this 450 that the seller hopes might be worth 18,000.
I suggested about half that amount but the reply is somewhere over 10,000.
The unit is reported to have 2900 original hours on it and " assuming " that it is in the very good condition that the owner claims, I would like to know what you guys think it would be worth in your area.
Here in Saskatchewan our local economy is enjoying good times and I would expect that this crawler would fetch as high a price here as anywhere, but, I value your opinions.

I enjoy my tool time, and I have been buying crawlers needing work hoping to make a couple of good ones for me, and perhaps, over time, sell one or two to help pay for my new hobby.(at least that is what I am telling my wife, I am not good at parting with things once they are home)

It would be nice to have a ready to work unit like this one as I have a few projects waiting, for when I get a dozer running.

I have not been invited as yet to inspect this 450, so I cant tell you much more than what I have posted here, and the one photo.

It appears to have a shed, a good thing for sure.

Cutting edge appears to be badly butchered somehow.
Front idler, sprockets and chains almost like like Deere cat puke primer, so they may have been replaced, front idler is back a ways.
Overall, good looking machine. If the hours jive, and the parts I listed have been replaced, and assuming the rest of the crawler is sound, I think $10,000 would be a steal. Junk will be 3/4th of that, then you get to buy parts and start fixing. Buy a good one, save the hassles.

The blade looks like it has been Mickie moused up for snow pushing If you have a good blade around great but don't pay top bucks for anything with a ugly blade .Over all that looks like a decent dozer though .Digitup.

Good call on the blade, that is totally made up, not just a cutting edge change, I missed it.

Not sure if this applies, but you may want to count the links to be sure one has not been removed on each track to move the front idler back to appear to "NOT BE WORN OUT."

Thanks guys for the heads up on the blade, undercarriage, etc. I have made an offer sight unseen and I am hoping to get a chance to have a closer look soon.

I have some roads to make through what is now old growth forest, some standing and some blow down. My 350 loader and winch have been great for the trees (lots left to do) however, a 450 with a 6 way would sure be good for the roadwork.
